Actor-politician Vijay is considering running in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Chennai, as his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has received a strong response from potential candidates. The party workers are showing significant interest in contesting, with Vijay weighing options between Velachery and Virugambakkam constituencies in Chennai.
Initially, Vijay had also looked at Vikravandi, Vedaranyam, and Vedasandur for candidacy. The decision-making process was influenced by factors like constituency names starting with ‘V’ or having an electoral number beginning with 9. However, logistical challenges outside Chennai are prompting a reconsideration.
Leaders believe that Vijay contesting from Chennai would streamline campaign management and enhance the party’s urban presence. A final decision is pending, considering local political dynamics and organizational strength in the shortlisted constituencies.
Meanwhile, TVK’s membership drive and candidate selection process are gaining momentum, with a high turnout for application forms at the party headquarters. The party plans to issue forms until February 14 to manage the crowd effectively and avoid overcrowding.
Residents near the party office in Panaiyur are facing challenges due to heavy traffic congestion caused by the surge in visitors. Local associations have raised concerns about the inconvenience caused by the political activities and have urged the police to improve crowd management and traffic regulation.
