Actor-turned-politician Vijay, also the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, is gearing up to boost his election campaign in southern Tamil Nadu. Scheduled for April 8, Vijay’s visit to Tirunelveli district is part of TVK’s strategy to enhance grassroots connections and garner support for the upcoming Assembly elections. The party’s General Secretary, ‘Bussy’ N. Anand, disclosed that Vijay will also visit Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) during this tour to interact with party members and supporters in a more casual setting.
Anand highlighted that the detailed itinerary, encompassing specific venues and timings, will only be publicized post receiving requisite clearances from the police. He mentioned that the official schedule will be disseminated through TVK’s website once the necessary permissions are secured. Discussions with law enforcement are currently in progress to finalize the program details.
There is uncertainty surrounding whether Vijay will conduct a roadshow in Tirunelveli, contingent upon permissions granted and logistical factors. Anand stated that a decision on the roadshow’s feasibility will be made once approvals are obtained. While Vijay is anticipated to engage with supporters in Tuticorin, Anand clarified that there are no plans for a public address in the coastal district. The focus will be on meeting fans and party workers without a formal speech or large public gathering.
In a twist, the party’s campaign events in Chennai, initially slated for Villivakkam and T. Nagar constituencies on April 6 and 7, have been canceled, sparking speculation about administrative obstacles. Although rumors suggested a denial of the request, police sources indicated that permission was granted for a limited one-hour duration. The reasons behind the Chennai program’s cancellation remain ambiguous.
Vijay’s campaign trail has been a focal point in Tamil Nadu, drawing significant crowds at each stop as TVK endeavors to broaden its political presence in the state.
