India’s Virat Kohli expressed sorrow over the death of Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand, who lost his battle with liver cancer. Khanchand was hospitalized in Greater Noida on February 21 and passed away on Friday after being on ventilator support.
Kohli offered his prayers and condolences to Rinku and his family during this challenging time. The mortal remains of Khanchand were taken to Aligarh from Greater Noida, with Rinku participating in his father’s funeral procession.
Rinku, who rushed to New Delhi from Chennai upon his father’s deteriorating health, rejoined the T20 World Cup squad for the match against Zimbabwe. However, he did not play in the match. BCCI confirmed that Rinku will not travel with the team for the next fixture against West Indies.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas and UPCA chief Prem Manohar Gupta also expressed their condolences to Rinku and his family. Gupta highlighted the added pain of the loss coming at a time when Rinku’s wedding had been recently arranged.
