The West Bengal government has initiated a significant reshuffle within the state police, affecting 27 officers, including those in Kolkata. One notable change involves the transfer of Murshidabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunny Raj, following the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking charge of the Beldanga violence probe. Dhritiman Sarkar has been appointed as the new SP of Murshidabad, with prior experience in districts like Jhargram, Bankura, and West Midnapore, as described by state secretariat sources.
Piyush Pandey has assumed the role of Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, while Supratim Sarkar has officially taken over as Commissioner of Police (CP) of Kolkata. The reshuffle also impacted the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, with Ms. Pushpa replacing the suspended DC Anish Sarkar. Additionally, changes in the Inspector General (IG) ranks include the transfer of Amit P. Javalgi from Burdwan Range to Barasat Range and Alok Rajoria from Barasat to Burdwan.
Within 24 hours of Supratim Sarkar becoming Kolkata Police Commissioner, several Deputy Commissioners (DCs) were reshuffled. Notable appointments include Deepak Sarkar as DC (South), Bidisha Kalita Dasgupta as SP of Bongaon, Jaspreet Singh as DC (East), and Amit Verma as DC (East Suburban). Moreover, Biswa Chand Thakur has been appointed SP of Sundarbans Police District, Pratiksha Jharkharia transferred to Darjeeling as SP, and Jyotirmoy Roy appointed DC (New Town) in the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
