The third supplementary list for judicial adjudication cases in West Bengal was released on Saturday around 10:15 p.m. This list is now accessible on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal websites. However, similar to the second supplementary list released on Friday at approximately 11:30 p.m., specific details like the total number of cases processed and the count of names excluded were not immediately disclosed, with no official figures shared with the media by the ECI.
The first supplementary list was unveiled at midnight on March 23. Individuals whose names are excluded during the adjudication process will have the opportunity to appeal to any of the 19 Appellate Tribunals established for this purpose. It was previously announced that supplementary lists would be issued in accordance with the progression of the adjudication process, following the publication of the final voters’ list in West Bengal on February 28, excluding the 60 lakh cases referred for judicial adjudication.
Before the initiation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) for West Bengal in November last year, the state had a total of 7,66,37,529 voters. In the draft voters’ list released in December last year, 58,20,899 names were removed. Subsequently, in the final voters’ list published on February 28, the deletion count increased to 63,66,952. The CEO’s office official mentioned that supplementary lists will now be published daily. Currently, over 700 judicial officers, including 100 from neighboring Jharkhand and Odisha each, are engaged in the adjudication process.
West Bengal is set to conduct two-phase Assembly elections on April 23 and April 29, with polling in 152 Assembly constituencies in the first phase and the remaining 142 constituencies in the second phase. Vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
