A delegation from the West Midlands Combined Authority visited Gujarat to meet Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel post the India–UK trade agreement. Led by Mayor Richard Parker, discussions focused on areas like higher education, green economy, electric vehicles, and skill development. The delegation also explored potential partnerships in sports infrastructure ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Gujarat.
Chief Minister Patel highlighted India’s global friendship under PM Modi’s leadership and Gujarat’s growth through policy-driven governance since the Vibrant Gujarat initiative in 2003. He emphasized Gujarat’s transformation into a global investment hub with sector-specific policies. Patel expressed readiness to lead in emerging sectors and collaborate with the UK in identified areas.
The delegation expressed interest in collaboration on advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and university-led innovation. They invited Chief Minister Patel and a Gujarat delegation to visit the West Midlands for the 2030 Commonwealth Games preparations. Patel proposed a joint working group with the West Midlands to enhance collaboration, suggesting iNDEXTb as the coordinating agency.
Senior representatives from various UK entities like West Midlands Growth Company and universities participated in the meeting. State officials, including Mamta Verma and P. Swaroop, were also present, discussing future cooperation and participation in upcoming events like the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference.
