World Archery Para Champion and world number one, Sheetal Devi, is currently focused on the upcoming Para Asian Games in Japan before considering the larger goal of the Paralympics in LA 2028. She recently received the title of para-archer of the year at the World Archery Awards for her outstanding performance in 2025, which included winning a world title in Gwangju.
Sheetal emphasized the importance of taking things step by step and concentrating on the immediate challenge at hand. Her recent silver medal at the World Archery Para Series event showcased her strong performance, while her compatriot, Payal Nag, secured the gold. Sheetal expressed satisfaction with her training progress for the Para Asian Games, with her coach highlighting the competitive environment within India as a positive factor for their preparation.
Coach Gaurav Sharma mentioned that they are currently training in Patiala until May, with plans to continue their preparation in the USA supported by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Despite some visa issues, they are optimistic about the training abroad providing valuable exposure and helping them align with international standards.
Regarding the unique shooting styles of teammates Sheetal and Payal, Sheetal appreciated the diversity in approaches and the success of Indian para-archers on the global stage. Coach Gaurav highlighted the distinct shooting mechanisms of the two athletes due to their physical differences, emphasizing how such diversity contributes to their individual styles and strategies.
