Debi Daimiri, a 28-year-old wrestler from Assam, faced early hardships after losing her parents at a young age. Moving in with relatives, she took on odd jobs to support her training due to financial struggles. Her perseverance paid off when she clinched a silver medal in the women’s 62kg category at the Khelo India Tribal Games.
Starting her wrestling journey in 2022 at the Khelo India Centre near Kaziranga, Debi worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles. Juggling part-time jobs to afford training expenses, she remained dedicated to her goal. Debi’s determination led her to success, but she aims to push even harder for a gold medal in the future.
Transitioning from powerlifting and arm wrestling to wrestling, Debi found guidance and support from coach Anustup Narah. Under his mentorship, she excelled in the sport, securing a gold medal at the State Championship in 2024. Debi’s family, especially her supportive husband and in-laws, have been pillars of strength in her pursuit of national and international recognition.
With unwavering determination and a strong support system, Debi looks forward to achieving more milestones in her wrestling career. Her dedication and resilience serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, showcasing the power of hard work and perseverance in the face of adversity.
