Rapper-singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, currently in Mexico, assured fans of his safety amidst the violent aftermath of Mexico’s most wanted cartel leader’s killing. He took to Instagram to share a picture beside a chartered plane, informing followers that he is “safe in Mexico” and en route back home. The country has witnessed widespread unrest, with blocked highways, burnt vehicles, and stranded American tourists in cities like Puerto Vallarta following the cartel leader’s death.
The deceased, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was eliminated in a Mexican military operation reportedly assisted by American intelligence, as per The Washington Post. Mexico’s Defence Secretary confirmed the deaths of eight cartel members in the operation, sparking retaliatory actions described as coordinated. The cartel showcased its strength by closing roads, burning vehicles, and causing chaos across Mexico, including Puerto Vallarta, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The aftermath of Oseguera’s death has led to heightened concerns about potential power struggles within the cartel, raising fears of increased instability. Analysts suggest that internal rivalries may escalate tensions, especially in Jalisco, a state slated to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The violence has resulted in casualties on both sides, with security personnel, civilians, and suspected cartel members among the reported fatalities.
