The death of a 27-year-old veterinarian, Sameeksha Reddy, at the Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari in Shivamogga on March 20 has sparked allegations of a larger conspiracy by her family. Her uncle, Rajasekhar, raised concerns about lapses at the facility, questioning unauthorized access to the hippopotamus enclosure and negligence by officials.
Rajasekhar highlighted deficiencies in basic facilities and animal care at the safari, citing WhatsApp chats of Sameeksha that pointed to these issues. He criticized the behavior of certain staffers post-incident and demanded accountability from the state government for the tragic event. Allegations of mismanagement and inadequate provisions at the facility have also surfaced.
The family alleged that Sameeksha had previously communicated her concerns about the safari’s conditions, including problems related to animal feeding and health management. They emphasized the need for strict action against responsible officials and stressed the importance of addressing the shortcomings at the safari. The incident has led to calls for a thorough investigation and accountability for the circumstances surrounding Sameeksha’s death.
