A young woman police Constable in Telangana’s Warangal district took her own life due to constant harassment by two men, one of whom was a distant relative. Anita, who served in the Warangal Police Commissionerate’s Armed Reserve division, consumed pesticides at her home on January 27 and later passed away in the hospital. The police have initiated an investigation and have filed a case against the two accused individuals.
The two accused have been identified as Rajender, a distant relative of Anita, and Jabbar Lal, her classmate. According to the preliminary police inquiry, Rajender had been promising to marry Anita for four years but was allegedly harassing her by making frequent video calls and accusing her of talking to other men. Anita’s parents intervened and refused to allow the marriage, after which Anita developed a relationship with Jabbar Lal, leading to further complications.
Anita, mentally distressed by the harassment from both men, contacted Rajender on the day of the incident and expressed her anguish, blaming them for her decision to end her life. Despite being taken to the hospital by her family, she could not be saved. Following a complaint from Anita’s family, the police have registered a case against Rajender and Jabbar Lal, continuing their investigation into the matter.
