Our review

Scene is Suriya’s Deepavali 2026 release and Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil directorial debut. It follows a semi-retired cop who hunts a methodical serial killer while dealing with a weakness of his own. Jithu Madhavan gave the horror and gangster genres a comic twist in Romancham and Aavesham, and here he does the same for the investigative thriller. The result is a funny, stylish and rewatchable film with a relaxed Suriya at the centre, and it is one of the most entertaining Tamil releases of the year.

Scene swaps the cold sweat of the usual serial killer thriller for humour, charm and whistle-worthy mass moments. Suriya plays the eccentric, Sherlock-like cop Inbaraj, and Nazriya Nazim and Naslen are superb alongside him. Most of the investigation unfolds inside Inbaraj’s house, which works almost as a character in its own right. Sushin Shyam’s low-key, groovy score, the smart fan-service nods to Suriya’s earlier hits and the cat-and-mouse game between hero and killer keep you hooked. It is a clever, crowd-pleasing film with a fresh take on a familiar genre.

Scene Plot Summary

Inbaraj is a brilliant, eccentric cop who can spot clues others miss, but he also has a blind spot that makes him vulnerable. He is up against Easwaran, a clever serial killer who doubles as a professional contract killer. Inbaraj builds an unusual team around himself, including Maya and his own parents. Each member has a weakness of their own, and together they make a unit that is both dysfunctional and highly effective. Most of the investigation unfolds inside Inbaraj’s house, leading to a cat-and-mouse climax.

Scene Movie Review: Performances

Suriya as Inbaraj: Suriya is wonderfully relaxed and in top form. He brings humour, swagger and heart to a cop who is eccentric, vulnerable and heroic at once. The mass moments land because he plays them with ease, and the quiet nods to Kaakha Kaakha, Singam, 7aum Arivu and Vaaranam Aayiram will delight fans.

Nazriya Nazim as Maya: Nazriya is a joy to watch. She plays the protagonist’s “eyes” with warmth, wit and strength, and her own mass moment is one of the film’s biggest crowd-pleasers.

Naslen as Easwaran: Naslen is casually cool and quietly menacing in his Tamil debut. His killer works because he feels ordinary, and that makes him more effective.

Anandaraj as Irudayaraj: Anandaraj brings his trademark comic timing and warmth as Inbaraj’s father. He is a scene-stealer in the household investigation team.

Lal: Lal adds his usual screen presence and veteran charm to the film.

John Vijay and Raj Priyan: Both make the most of their roles and add colour to the film’s quirky world.

Selvi (Inbaraj’s mother): The character adds to the family-team dynamic that gives the film its humour and charm.

Scene Technical Analysis

Direction

Jithu Madhavan delivers his best film yet. He keeps the scale minimal and the tone light, and he builds an investigative thriller out of comedy, character and mass-hero moments. The film’s unusual rhythm is the director’s signature.

Cinematography

Vineeth Augustian keeps the visuals clean and character-driven. Inbaraj’s house is shot as a character in itself, and the climactic elevation of the space is a fun payoff.

Music and Score

Making his Tamil debut, Sushin Shyam keeps the music breezy and groovy. It is neither overly dramatic like a typical serial killer film nor overloud like a typical mass-hero film, and it fits the film’s tone.

Editing

Ajmal Sabu’s cutting keeps the investigation brisk. Once the film finds its groove, the cat-and-mouse game between Inbaraj and Easwaran builds with real momentum.

Final Verdict: ⭐9.5/10
