Our review
Imagine a Pakistani spy who wakes up with no memory, remembers only that he loves his country, and forgets which country it is. That is the setup of Udta Teer, the spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, written and directed by Aakash A Kaushik. It blends mistaken identity, patriotism and Bollywood nostalgia into a film that is funny from start to finish. Here is our full review, covering the story, performances, technical aspects and final verdict.
Udta Teer is a light-hearted spy comedy where the laughs come from the gap between who the hero is and who he believes he is. Ayushmann Khurrana is in top form as a spy with an identity crisis, and a well-chosen supporting cast keeps the humour going throughout. The film treats national security with a light touch. There is no preachy patriotism, just situational comedy, quirky music and well-placed Bollywood references. If you wanted a spy film with more humour, this is it.

Udta Teer Plot Summary
The story opens in Pakistan, where terrorist Azhar Maqsood threatens revenge after Operation Sindoor. Intelligence inputs suggest he has crossed the border into India. In Baramulla, Kashmir, Vikrant Thapar, an officer with India’s Counter Terrorism Squad (CTS), is part of the operation to track him down.
Vikrant’s real identity and loyalties are not what they seem, and his past ties into a larger conspiracy involving Indian and Pakistani intelligence agencies. Meanwhile, CTS chief Varman is hunting for a mole in his team, and Vikrant’s marriage to Yamini, who works in the Defence Ministry, is falling apart. With professional secrets and personal problems colliding, the chaos begins.

Performances
Ayushmann Khurrana delivers a sharp, confident performance as Vikrant and Bilal. He handles both sides of the character with ease, keeping the confusion clear without overplaying it. His comic timing shines in scenes where his actions make perfect sense to him but leave everyone else bewildered.
Sara Ali Khan is convincing and graceful as Yamini. Even with limited screen time, she brings warmth and emotional weight to the troubled marriage at the heart of the story.
Suhail Nayyar is a delight as Ashfaq. His exchanges with Ayushmann and Rahul Bose are among the film’s comic high points, and he plays the chaos with natural ease. His favourite line will stay with you after you leave the theatre.
Rahul Bose is a standout as CTS chief Varman. The hospital scenes are some of the funniest in the film, and much of his comedy comes from his expressive eyes alone.
Mukul Dev makes a memorable impression as Azhar Maqsood. His Hinder-swiping introduction sets the tone for the film’s unexpected humour, and the late actor leaves a lasting mark with his scenes.
Ram Kapoor brings credibility and gravitas, anchoring the film’s spy world with a polished, dependable presence.
Brijendra Kala makes great use of his understated screen presence, getting laughs without raising his voice.
Gulshan Grover adds seasoned star power and strengthens the supporting ensemble.
Raghubir Yadav brings his veteran charm and gives every scene he appears in an extra layer of fun.
Sandeep Anand adds to the laughs with sharp comic timing and complements the ensemble well.
Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe round out the ensemble with dependable, polished work that adds depth to the world of the film.

Technical Analysis
Direction
Aakash A Kaushik handles both writing and direction with confidence. He keeps the comedy and the spy plot moving together, building humour from mistaken identities and what the audience knows versus what the characters know. The film never turns preachy or over-the-top.
Cinematography
The visuals support the film’s light tone, moving between Kashmir and the covert world of spies with a polished, watchable look.
Music and Score
Sachin-Jigar’s music, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, fits the film’s quirky humour. The playful lyrics add to the fun, and the use of the Julie (1975) title song, Bhul Gaya Sab Kuch, at the right moment is a smart nostalgic touch.
Editing
The pacing keeps the jokes landing and the story moving. The comic set-ups and payoffs are well timed, so the film stays entertaining throughout.
