Indian-origin writer and publishing director of Wasafiri, Sana Goyal, has joined the jury for the International Booker Prize 2025. This prestigious literary prize, celebrated for its recognition of translated fiction, recently announced its new jury on its official website and social media platforms. The selection process will commence, marking the start of the countdown to one of the most coveted awards in literature.
The five-member jury, led by Booker Prize-longlisted author Max Porter, includes Goyal, prize-winning poet Caleb Femi, author and translator Anton Hur, and singer-songwriter Beth Orton. They are tasked with selecting the best work of long-form fiction or a collection of short stories translated into English and published in the UK and/or Ireland between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025.
Birmingham-based Goyal, who holds an MA in Postcolonial Studies and a PhD in Literary Prizes from SOAS, University of London, has an impressive background. She has served as Deputy Editor at Wasafiri, Publicity Manager at Tilted Axis Press, and Marketing and Outreach Officer at Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal. Her writings have appeared in renowned publications such as The Guardian, Financial Times, Times Literary Supplement, and Vogue India.
Goyal also brings valuable juror experience, having judged the 2022 Orwell Prize for Political Fiction and the 2023 Republic of Consciousness Prize. The International Booker Prize 2025 longlist will be announced on February 25, 2025, followed by the shortlist on April 8, 2025. The winner will be revealed at a ceremony at London’s Tate Modern on May 20, 2025.
