Age Rating: PG-13

Language: Telugu

Duration: 2 Hrs 16 Mins

Genre: Action, Comedy

First Look: What’s the Buzz About?

When the first look of “Laila” dropped, it had the internet buzzing. Vishwak Sen’s shocking transformation into a female avatar grabbed attention, making fans curious about what this movie had to offer. But does it live up to the hype, or is it just another poorly executed gimmick? Let’s find out!

The Plot: Confusing or Comedy Gold?

Sonu Model (Vishwak Sen) is a popular makeup artist running a beauty parlor in Hyderabad’s Old City. He unintentionally lands himself in deep trouble when he helps a customer by lending his name for a cooking oil business. What follows is a chaotic mess that somehow leads to Sonu transforming into ‘Laila.’ But why does he become Laila? What’s the real conflict? Does the story make sense, or is it just one random scene after another?

Spoiler alert: It’s mostly the latter.

Performances: Who Stole the Show?

  • Vishwak Sen: Commendable effort in donning a female avatar, but the character lacked depth.
  • Aakanksha Sharma: Limited scope, heavily relying on glamour.
  • Abhimanyu Singh: Decent performance, generating a few laughs.
  • Babloo Prithiveeraj & Vineet Kumar: Loud and exaggerated, adding to the film’s chaotic energy.
  • Kamakshi Bhaskarla: Strong supporting role but underutilized.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

What Worked:

✅ A couple of genuinely funny comedy sequences.
✅ Vishwak Sen’s willingness to experiment.
✅ Good production values; the Old City set looks realistic.

What Didn’t Work:

❌ Outdated writing and execution.
❌ Unnecessary double-entendre comedy that falls flat.
❌ Poor song placement—none of the tracks leave an impact.
❌ Over-the-top performances that make the film feel exhausting.

Technical Aspects: A Letdown?

  • Direction: Ram Narayan’s vision is all over the place, making the film feel more like a collection of random scenes than a coherent story.
  • Music: Leon James’ soundtrack is forgettable, with only one decent song (‘Icchukundam Baby’).
  • Cinematography: Richard Prasad does a decent job, but it’s nothing spectacular.
  • Editing: The film could have easily been 30 minutes shorter.

Should You Watch It?

If you’re a die-hard Vishwak Sen fan, you might enjoy a few moments in “Laila.” But for the average moviegoer, this film feels like a forced attempt at humor with outdated writing and below-the-belt jokes.

⭐ Rating: 1.75/5
📌 Watch It? Only if you’re in the mood for some mindless chaos.
🍿 Skip It? Yes, unless you love cringy comedy.
