Cast: Vikram Chatterjee, Swastika Mukherjee, Ekavali Khanna
Duration: 1h 40min
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Age Rating: A (Suitable for 18+)

Story Overview

Set in the industrial town of Durgapur, the film follows CID officer Soumya Sen (Vikram Chatterjee) as he investigates a series of mysterious deaths linked to a specific brand of vitamin capsules. The victims, seemingly unconnected, baffle the authorities until journalist Ushashi (Swastika Mukherjee) uncovers a crucial clue, propelling the investigation forward. As they delve deeper, they uncover a web of deceit and danger, leading to a gripping quest for justice .

Direction & Screenplay

Director Arindam Bhattacharya crafts a compelling narrative that blends medical intrigue with crime thriller elements. The screenplay maintains a steady pace, with the first half focusing on swift investigations and the second half delving into the meticulous planning of the antagonist. The film culminates in a high-octane climax, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats .

Performances

Vikram Chatterjee delivers a standout performance as the determined CID officer, showcasing a rugged intensity that marks a departure from his previous roles. Swastika Mukherjee shines as Ushashi, portraying a fearless journalist with depth and conviction. Ekavali Khanna, as Deputy Superintendent Gouri Prasad Singh, provides solid support, though her character could have been further developed .

Cinematography & Music

Prosenjit Chowdhury’s cinematography captures the essence of Durgapur, moving away from the typical visuals of Kolkata to present a fresh backdrop for the thriller. The film’s soundscape, featuring a rock-themed background score, enhances the tension and complements the narrative’s ebb and flow .

Strengths and Shortcomings

What Works:

  • Engaging performances by Vikram Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee
  • Intriguing medico-crime storyline
  • Effective pacing and suspenseful climax
  • Atmospheric cinematography and compelling background score

What Could Be Better:

  • Some supporting characters lack depth
  • The second half’s slower pace may not appeal to all viewers
  • Certain plot elements could have been more tightly woven

Should You Watch It?

Absolutely. Durgapur Junction offers a refreshing take on the Bengali thriller genre, combining medical mystery with crime investigation. With strong performances and a gripping narrative, it’s a film that keeps you engaged from start to finish. If you’re a fan of thrillers that delve into societal issues while providing edge-of-the-seat entertainment, this film is a must-watch.
