A tragic road accident in Katihar on Saturday resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals and left 25 others injured, prompting sorrow and worry throughout Bihar. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sadness over the incident, offering condolences to the affected families and labeling it as extremely tragic. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh per deceased individual from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, along with Rs 50,000 aid for each injured person. Kumar also instructed officials to ensure prompt and proper medical care for the injured individuals, wishing them a speedy recovery.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also mourned the incident, describing it as heart-wrenching and distressing, and extended sympathies to the victims’ families. He urged the administration to provide immediate financial support for ensuring the best medical treatment for the injured. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed deep sorrow over the accident, offering condolences to the tribal families who lost their lives and praying for the departed souls to find peace. He also wished for the injured to recover swiftly.
The tragic collision occurred at Basgada Chowk on National Highway number 31 in Katihar, involving a bus and a pickup vehicle in a head-on crash, resulting in significant casualties. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, allegedly speeding, collided head-on with the pickup van, causing both vehicles to be severely damaged. The injured were promptly taken to nearby medical facilities, including Sadar Hospital in Katihar, for treatment. This devastating incident has once again emphasized the critical need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures to prevent such tragic losses of life.
