As the 12th International Day of Yoga approaches on June 21, various yoga-themed events, fitness activities, and awareness programs have been organized in different states. In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a unique water yoga session took place at Bargad Ghat on the Yamuna River, blending yoga exercises with aquatic activities. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s encouragement, the session aimed to promote overall well-being through yoga.
In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, a ‘Run for Yoga’ event was held to promote fitness and raise awareness about the benefits of yoga. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated, advocating for healthy lifestyles through physical activity and yoga. West Bengal also saw active participation with a Yoga Run and meditation walk in the South 24 Parganas district, emphasizing fitness, mindfulness, and community well-being.
Jammu organized a three-day yoga program with the participation of students and local residents, supported by BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa. The event aimed to highlight the importance of yoga in enhancing immunity, stamina, and overall physical health. Additionally, Jammu Airport conducted a special yoga session involving airport staff, emphasizing the increasing integration of yoga in workplaces and public institutions.
In Haryana, a yoga camp at Dera Baba Bhumanshah in Sirsa was attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, underlining yoga’s role in fostering a healthy lifestyle. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also joined a yoga session in Jaipur, encouraging citizens to embrace yoga in their daily routines. International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, promotes unity between mind and body, individuals and nature, through the ancient practice of yoga.
The theme for International Yoga Day 2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” focusing on enhancing vitality, resilience, and independence among older adults while promoting holistic wellness. The day’s global observance was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and officially recognized by the United Nations on June 21.
