A tragic incident unfolded in central Osaka, western Japan, where a 17-year-old boy lost his life while two other boys sustained injuries in a stabbing late Saturday. The attack occurred in Osaka’s bustling Dotombori shopping area on the first floor of a building, prompting an emergency call to the police around 11:55 p.m. local time. The perpetrator, a young man, fled the scene on foot and is currently at large, as reported by Kyodo news agency via Xinhua.

The victim who tragically passed away hailed from Nara Prefecture and suffered stab wounds to the chest and other areas, succumbing to his injuries at the scene. The two injured 17-year-old boys were swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention, according to the authorities. The assailant, believed to be in his twenties, was acquainted with the victims and engaged in a dispute with them shortly before the violent attack, as confirmed by the police.

In a separate incident just a month prior, a man was apprehended on January 15 for stabbing two individuals who had arrived at his Tokyo apartment for forced eviction proceedings. The suspect, a man in his 40s, was taken into custody not far from the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. One victim, a company employee, was in critical condition, while the other, a court enforcement officer, sustained minor injuries. Both victims were in their 60s.

On a previous occasion, on December 26, 2025, a disturbing incident occurred where 15 individuals were injured in a stabbing spree at a factory in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Reports indicated that the attack took place at a Yokohama Rubber factory in Mishima, with authorities receiving an emergency call regarding multiple individuals being stabbed. Masaki Oyama, aged 38, was arrested by the police on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with this incident.
