20 TN Police personnel felicitated with presidential service medals

Chennai, Aug 15 (IANS) Twenty personnel from the Tamil Nadu Police have been selected for prestigious service medals announced by the Union government on the occasion of Independence Day, officials said on Saturday.

Three police officers will receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, while 17 have been chosen for the Medal for Meritorious Service.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service recognises an exceptional record in policing, while the meritorious service medal honours sustained professional commitment and exemplary performance.

The three recipients of the distinguished service medal are K. Ramachandran, Virudhunagar Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption’s Additional Superintendent of Police; J. Vijay Anand, Chennai ‘Q’ Branch CID’s Additional Superintendent of Police; and S. Kumar, Manimuthar Assistant Commandant of Tamil Nadu Special Police IX Battalion.

The 17 personnel selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service represent various units of the state police, including the Coastal Security Group, Crime Branch-CID, State Intelligence, Cyber Crime Wing, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and the Tamil Nadu Special Police.

The recipients are M. Somasundaram, Salem Additional Superintendent of Police Headquarters; K. Shivashankar, Nagapattinam Additional Superintendent of Police (Coastal Security Group); P. Govindaraju, Tirupathur Additional Superintendent of Police Headquarters; and S. Shanmugam, Muthukulathur Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Others selected are S. Manimaran, Assistant Commandant of Tamil Nadu Special Police XIII Battalion at Avadi; I. Jeya Princess, Thoothukudi CBCID Inspector; C. Mathimaran, Chennai SBCID Inspector; P. Mariappan, Chennai Security Branch CID Inspector; K. Saraswathi, The Nilgiris CBCID Inspector; and S. Lakshmi, Tiruchi CBCID Inspector.

The list also includes G. Batharunissa Begum, Tirupur Crime Record Bureau Inspector; K. Gopal, Chennai DVAC Inspector; C. Lakshmi, Chennai ‘Q’ Branch CID Inspector; and S. Malathi, Chennai Cyber Crime Wing Inspector.

The remaining recipients are N. Sathuragiri, Chennai ‘Q’ Branch CID Sub-Inspector; R. Senthil Kumar, Tiruchi Sub-Inspector (Special Branch); and S. Baskar, Chennai Sub-Inspector of Intelligence Section.

The Independence Day honours recognise the dedication and contributions of police personnel serving across investigative, intelligence, security and specialised operational wings.

The awards also underline the diverse responsibilities handled by the Tamil Nadu Police in maintaining law and order, investigating crime, strengthening coastal and internal security, combating corruption and responding to emerging cyber threats across the state.
