About 26.35 crore APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs have been created in India as of July 2. These IDs offer a unified academic identity for each student under the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ program. APAAR ID is a unique 12-digit student identification number connected to the ABC system, accessible through DigiLocker and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform. This system consolidates a student’s educational records from various learning programs onto a single platform.
The initiative aims to creditize school education records and align them with APAAR ID through NAD-ABC. Even in remote areas, Common Service Centres (CSC) can generate APAAR IDs. The primary goal of ABC is to establish a flexible, student-centric education framework that acknowledges, stores, and utilizes learning achievements across a person’s lifetime. It aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit Framework (NCrF) by facilitating credit transfer, offering multiple entry and exit options, and recognizing learning across diverse institutions and disciplines.
ABC ensures that students who discontinue their studies after completing a portion can retain the credits earned in the ABC data bank. These credits remain valid for seven years, allowing students to utilize them when they resume their studies. By maintaining digital records of achievements, ABC and APAAR streamline credit transfers between educational institutions, enhancing transparency in academic record-keeping. The platform fosters collaboration among schools, universities, skill institutions, and other educational entities, fostering a cohesive educational environment.
ABC and APAAR collectively establish a reliable digital infrastructure for academic records, promoting a more adaptable, transparent, and accessible education system for all learners.
