A tragic incident unfolded during a wedding celebration in Bihar’s Gopalganj district when a 32-year-old dancer, Sonu Goudh, was fatally shot after resisting an attempt by some youths to forcibly take him away from the stage. The incident occurred in Patohwa village under the Kateya police station limits late Thursday night.
Sonu, who hailed from Mahua Patan village in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, was part of a local dance-drama troupe managed by Ramayan Yadav, performing at the event. After being urged for another performance while resting near the stage, Sonu was confronted by unruly youths who tried to move him to a secluded spot.
Despite Sonu’s resistance, one of the youths shot him at close range, causing a fatal injury to his stomach. Rushed to a hospital, Sonu succumbed to his wounds on the way. Ramayan Yadav, the troupe manager, revealed that Sonu had been with the group since 2020 and had been a dancer for seven years, supporting his family after his parents’ demise.
Efforts are underway by the authorities to locate and apprehend the perpetrators involved in the shooting. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is ongoing to bring justice to Sonu’s tragic death.
