At least 35 individuals sustained injuries in a significant road mishap on NH-31 in Bihar’s Katihar. The incident occurred when a speeding passenger bus collided head-on with a car and overturned early Saturday. The bus, carrying about 50 passengers, including migrant laborers en route to West Bengal from Nalanda district, met with the accident near Jurabganj, within the jurisdiction of Kodha Police Station.
The collision with a speeding car from the opposite direction caused the bus driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle overturning in the middle of the highway. Many passengers were trapped amidst the chaos, with some stuck between seats and inside the damaged bus. Promptly, local villagers and Bihar Police personnel initiated a rescue operation.
Following the accident, all 35 injured individuals were promptly transported to the Community Health Centre in Kodha using ambulances and private vehicles. Subsequently, 12 critically injured passengers were referred to Purnea Sadar Hospital due to severe head and internal injuries. The car driver, who also suffered serious injuries, was transferred to Purnea for advanced medical care.
Traffic movement on NH-31 was severely disrupted by the accident, causing long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway. To restore normal traffic flow, the police utilized cranes and a JCB machine to clear debris and remove the overturned bus. After nearly two hours of concerted efforts, traffic resumed its usual course. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, with authorities seizing both the damaged bus and car for legal scrutiny.
