The controversy arose following Rahman’s comments in a recent interview regarding his experiences in the Hindi film industry. In a conversation with BBC Asian Network, Rahman mentioned receiving limited work offers in Bollywood, hinting at shifts in power dynamics and “communal” factors influencing his opportunities.
In response to the backlash, Rahman clarified his remarks in a video, emphasizing that his intentions were misunderstood and that he never intended to cause harm. He reiterated his deep connection to India, describing it as his source of inspiration and emphasizing the unity and cultural celebration in his music.
Rahman further expressed his commitment to uplifting and serving through music, citing various projects that have enriched his purpose. These include collaborations with diverse musicians, mentoring initiatives like the Sunshine Orchestra, and scoring projects like Ramayana alongside Hans Zimmer.
