A political rift has surfaced in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema criticized Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha for allegedly not adequately addressing key Punjab issues in Parliament. Cheema expressed concern over the lack of discussion on critical matters such as the recent floods in Punjab and the withholding of the state’s funds by the Central government.
Highlighting security and economic challenges, Cheema pointed out the losses incurred in Punjab due to tensions between India and Pakistan, especially in border districts, which were not addressed in parliamentary discussions. He emphasized that these issues significantly impact Punjab’s economy and should have been given due attention but were overlooked.
The discord within AAP reflects differing opinions on how effectively Punjab’s interests are being represented at the national level. Chadha, in response to the allegations, defended his parliamentary engagement on Punjab-related matters, dismissing claims that he neglected the state’s issues in Parliament.
Chadha clarified that his interventions are part of the official parliamentary record, refuting accusations of failing to raise Punjab’s concerns. He stressed that his actions are verifiable through official records, citing instances like raising the issue of pending funds, including Rural Development Fund dues, during a Parliamentary session in July 2024.
