Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has backed the nationwide strike by gig workers associated with top delivery and e-commerce platforms. Thousands of gig workers from companies like Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, and others participated in the strike, affecting services in multiple states. The strike, supported by various worker unions and collectives, aims to highlight the demands of gig workers for better working conditions and benefits.
Chadha expressed solidarity with the striking delivery partners, emphasizing their demands for improved social security, fair compensation, and better working environments. He stressed the need for companies to address the concerns of delivery workers who face challenges like excessive workload and inadequate pay. The AAP MP urged companies to allocate a portion of their revenue to enhance the lives of delivery partners, emphasizing the importance of meaningful dialogue to resolve the issues raised by the workers.
Chadha recently met with a Blinkit delivery partner to understand the challenges faced by gig workers firsthand. Following the meeting, he communicated the concerns and demands of the delivery partners to the management of e-commerce companies. The AAP MP highlighted the alleged intimidation faced by delivery partners from companies and team leaders for participating in the strike, emphasizing the importance of respecting workers’ rights to protest.
In a democracy, Chadha asserted, every individual has the right to voice their concerns and participate in peaceful protests. He expressed optimism about finding a positive resolution to the issues raised by gig workers, acknowledging their significant role in the e-commerce industry. Chadha emphasized the need for collective efforts to address the grievances of delivery partners and improve their working conditions for a sustainable and equitable industry.
