Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has lauded the Central government’s draft Social Security Rules, announced on December 30, 2025, under the Code on Social Security, 2020. Chadha views this as a significant initial move towards acknowledging, safeguarding, and honoring millions of gig workers and delivery partners.
Chadha expressed his appreciation for the workers in a social media post, hailing the draft Social Security Rules as a positive development. He highlighted that these rules mark a crucial step towards recognizing, protecting, and valuing the labor of gig workers and delivery partners, emphasizing the importance of this progress.
In a video message, Chadha stressed the collective effort behind this milestone, attributing the success not only to his efforts as a Member of Parliament but also to the courageous voices of all workers who spoke up. He commended the government and the people of the country for their attention to the workers’ concerns.
The rules outlined by Chadha offer key benefits to gig workers, including formal recognition as workers regardless of their work hours and eligibility for social security benefits after specific durations of work. Additionally, the rules mandate registration on a government portal to provide workers with a Universal Account Number and a digital ID card for official recognition.
Chadha also highlighted the accountability of companies under the new rules, emphasizing the requirement for companies to register all workers, share accurate data with the government, and contribute to a dedicated Social Security Fund. These changes aim to ensure workers’ access to various protections like insurance and pension benefits.
