Trinamool Congress General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, dismissed recent claims suggesting he requested security from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) following an attack by a mob in Sonarpur, West Bengal. The allegations arose after Ritabrata Banerjee, an expelled Trinamool Congress legislator, mentioned the issue while addressing the media last week.

Ritabrata Banerjee criticized Abhishek Banerjee for supposedly seeking security cover after staying home-bound for 26 days post the party’s defeat on May 4. Abhishek Banerjee, in response, refuted these claims through a social media statement on Saturday, emphasizing that he had not sought any security cover since the attack.

Abhishek Banerjee highlighted the need for the government to address the circumstances of the attack, stressing the importance of citizen safety over political narratives. He urged both state and central security agencies to prioritize public safety and truth, rather than allowing misinformation to spread through the media.
