Afghan law enforcement officials have detained 80 individuals for drug trafficking after conducting coordinated operations in various provinces, as announced by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. The arrests were made following targeted raids by counter-narcotics police in multiple regions, leading to the confiscation of significant amounts of illegal substances like hashish, narcotic tablets, and materials used in heroin production. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to combat drug trafficking and dismantle distribution networks nationwide.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs emphasized the ongoing commitment to intensify operations against the production, smuggling, and sale of illicit drugs throughout Afghanistan. In a recent development on April 15, the provincial director for Counter-Narcotics reported that over 100 kg of various narcotics were publicly burned in Khost province as part of the fight against illicit drugs. The contraband, including hashish, heroin, opium poppy, and stimulant tablets, was destroyed publicly to send a strong message against drug-related activities.
The Afghan government has been actively cracking down on illegal drugs, with recent actions including the destruction of poppy farms and burning of narcotics across the country. In another incident on February 23, Afghan police arrested two drug smugglers in Takhar province, seizing 41 kg of illicit drugs from their possession. The suspects were caught attempting to smuggle opium poppy and hashish out of the province, highlighting the government’s determination to eliminate drug production and trafficking threats.
