Afghanistan’s Chief of Armed Forces, Fasihuddin Fitrat, has accused the Pakistan military of breaching the ceasefire along the Durand Line, resulting in casualties in border areas, as per Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence. Fitrat criticized Pakistan’s actions, labeling them as a display of insincerity and deceit despite the existing ceasefire, as reported by Afghanistan-based Ariana News.
Fitrat emphasized Afghanistan’s restraint from retaliatory measures to prevent escalation and maintain ceasefire commitments. He warned that if Pakistan persists with such attacks, the ceasefire would lose its significance, prompting a strong response from the Taliban. Recently, both countries had temporarily paused military operations for Eid at the behest of mediators like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye.
Despite the temporary truce, reports indicate that Pakistani forces launched over 70 artillery shells in Afghanistan’s Kunar province, with specific areas like Barikot, Dokalam, Tsongalai in Narai district, and Manogai district being targeted. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and relocate to safer zones while monitoring the situation closely. Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, condemned Pakistani airstrikes on Kabul, citing a breach of humanitarian and Islamic values and resulting in significant casualties, particularly among patients at a drug rehabilitation center.
Muttaqi highlighted the vulnerability of the targeted group and expressed concerns over the erosion of trust in diplomatic resolutions due to repeated attacks. He affirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to defensive actions in response to continued aggression, emphasizing the nation’s desire for peace while asserting its right to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.
