Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar saw a significant improvement in their transport infrastructure as Gujarat’s first cable-stayed flyover in an urban area was inaugurated. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the flyover at Bhat Circle on the Gandhinagar-Airport Road and initiated the widening of a key bridge over the Narmada Main Canal.
The 1.48-km-long cable-stayed flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 175 crore, is a joint effort between the state’s Roads and Buildings Department and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). This flyover marks a first in Gujarat’s urban landscape.
Additionally, a project worth Rs 48 crore has been sanctioned to build new three-lane bridges alongside the existing six-lane bridge near Koba Circle. This expansion aims to alleviate congestion between Koba Circle and Bhat Circle, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic and accommodating future growth.
The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor, a vital road link in the state, witnesses heavy traffic with over 1.93 lakh vehicles using it daily. The new flyover at Bhat Circle will redirect traffic on the S.P. Ring Road, while vehicles commuting between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will utilize the flyover, segregating the traffic flow.
The project also includes the construction of dedicated six-lane service roads on both sides for vehicles heading towards the S.P. Ring Road, Vadodara, and Surat. Notable attendees at the inauguration included MP Hasmukhbhai Patel, Gandhinagar MLAs Rita Patel and Alpesh Thakor, Gandhinagar Mayor Mira Patel, city BJP president Ashish Dave, and senior government officials.
