The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has increased its efforts to combat dengue, malaria, and chikungunya ahead of the monsoon season. Dengue cases in the city have significantly dropped this year, with 110 cases reported from January to May 2026 compared to 1,591 cases in 2025. Government hospitals detected 104 cases, while private hospitals identified six cases this year.
In addition to dengue, Ahmedabad has reported 54 malaria (PV) cases and 11 malaria (PF) cases in 2026, a decrease from 2025’s 784 malaria (PV) and 177 malaria (PF) cases. The AMC attributed the decline in cases to enhanced surveillance and monitoring efforts compared to the previous year.
As part of their pre-monsoon plan, the AMC has deployed 274 fogging machines and 2,000 staff members across the city, focusing on high-risk areas. They have identified 577 mosquito breeding spots, penalized 88 construction sites for breeding violations, and collected over 6.53 lakh blood samples for disease surveillance this year.
The corporation is actively removing potential breeding sites like abandoned tires and stagnant water, clearing vegetation from lakes, and conducting inspections at various establishments. They have appointed nodal officers to ensure compliance with vector control regulations and are monitoring catchpits and drainage systems regularly.
