The Ahmedabad Crime Branch in Gujarat apprehended a female employee linked to the purported theft of gold ornaments valued at over Rs 1.66 crore from a jewellery store in the Nikol area. The accused, identified as Harshida Shetty (38), who worked at “Aabhushan Jewellers” in Gravity Shopping Mall, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged at Nikol Police Station. Multiple teams were deployed by the Crime Branch to track down the accused, leading to the recovery of jewellery and stolen items worth Rs 22,54,500.
Police investigations revealed that the accused, in collaboration with an associate named Mayur Mali, allegedly orchestrated the theft. The duo reportedly absconded from Gujarat after executing the theft, traveling through Udaipur, Jaipur, and Delhi on a motorcycle. While staying at a hotel, the co-accused purportedly absconded with the stolen gold ornaments, leaving the woman behind.
Recovered items from the accused include a gold bracelet valued at Rs 9.98 lakh, an eagle-embossed gold ring with white stones worth Rs 1.34 lakh, a gold mangalsutra priced at Rs 7.43 lakh, and a gold chain valued at Rs 3.62 lakh. Additionally, a mobile phone was seized from her possession, and the case was filed under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The arrested individual has been transferred to the Nikol Police Station for further legal procedures.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the absconding accomplice, who is believed to reside in the Vastral area. Police continue their investigation to recover the remaining stolen valuables and piece together the complete chain of events related to the alleged crime.
