The Ahmedabad Crime Branch in Gujarat apprehended a 27-year-old man, Noman Sheikh, associated with a significant narcotics ring and confiscated mephedrone valued at over Rs 14 lakh in a raid at Danilimda. Sheikh was taken into custody from a rented flat at Al-Falah Apartment near Barrel Market in Danilimda based on a tip-off received by the Crime Branch. During the operation on May 6, authorities discovered 468.640 grams of mephedrone, also known as MD drugs, alongside six mobile phones, a weighing scale, and cash.
Police mentioned that Sheikh was already a wanted individual in a case filed by the State Monitoring Cell involving 289.770 grams of mephedrone under the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A new case has been registered against him at the DCB police station under Sections 8(C), 22(C), and 29 of the NDPS Act. Forensic experts confirmed the substance seized during the raid as mephedrone.
Sheikh confessed during interrogation that he sourced the narcotic substance from a supplier outside Gujarat and had been distributing it in Danilimda and nearby areas for the past two months. Investigative records indicate that Sheikh has a history of involvement in various cases registered at Sarkhej and Vejalpur police stations, including charges related to assault, robbery, and theft. The arrest is part of a series of recent anti-narcotics operations in Ahmedabad and the state.
In recent months, the city Crime Branch detained two individuals in Gheekanta with 412 grams of mephedrone valued at Rs 12.4 lakh, while the Ahmedabad Rural SOG seized hybrid ganja in the Bopal region. In a separate incident, Crime Branch officials confiscated 52.410 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 1.57 lakh from Behrampura and arrested two individuals from Rajasthan in connection with the case. Additionally, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted methamphetamine worth Rs 6.32 crore from a passenger at Surat Railway Station.
