The Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended five members of an interstate gang for duping major e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Amazon, seizing goods and equipment valued at Rs 20.5 lakh. The arrested individuals, hailing from Rajasthan and Surat, engaged in replacing genuine electronic items with fake products within the logistics chain. Operating in cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Jalore, the gang used fraudulent means to order high-value gadgets and then resell the authentic items in the market illegally.
Two members of the gang, Rishipal Bhati and Vinod, are currently evading arrest. The criminals employed specialized tools to swap real products with identical-looking dummy items, subsequently marking the orders as ‘cancelled’ or ‘returned’ to cover their tracks. The police are expanding their investigation to uncover more leads and delve deeper into the case beyond the initial arrests.
The seized items included eight genuine mobile phones, various dummy electronic devices, tools used for tampering with parcels, and a vehicle utilized for transporting the illicit goods. The accused individuals confessed to prior crimes, such as stealing several high-end gadgets in different cities over the past years. The case has been filed at the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) Police Station under specific sections of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities caution online shoppers to stay vigilant and assure strict legal repercussions for those engaging in fraudulent online activities.
