The Ahmedabad Crime Branch uncovered human remains believed to be of a woman involved in a 1992 murder case in the Vatva area. The excavation near Kumbhar Nagar Chowk led to the recovery of skeletal remains suspected to be of Farzana, who visited Ahmedabad from Mumbai over three decades ago.
Authorities suspect Farzana was killed by her partner, Shamshuddin, due to tensions arising from her visit. The police believe her body was disposed of in a well to hide the crime. Rizwan, Shamshuddin’s brother, and other suspects are under investigation, along with witnesses, as part of the case.
DCP Ajit Rajian mentioned that the murder case from 1992 was solved under unusual circumstances. The victim’s body was concealed in a domestic well, allowing the crime to go unnoticed for years. Further forensic and DNA testing will be conducted to confirm the identity of the deceased as Farzana.
Officials revealed that the body was hidden in the well in 1992, keeping the crime undiscovered for over three decades. The Crime Branch is re-evaluating missing persons records and old complaints to aid in identification. The motive behind the murder is suspected to be linked to an extramarital relationship, with ongoing investigations into all angles.
Residents were informed before the excavation, with promises of compensation for any disturbances caused.
