The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has halted the sale of nearly 4,850 kilograms of suspected cow ghee, valued at over Rs 31.81 lakh. This action followed coordinated inspections at three locations in the city. Laboratory tests will now determine if the products meet food safety standards.
During the operation conducted by AMC’s South Zone team in the Indrapuri ward area, products under the brands “Rhythm Cow Ghee” and “Vachanamrut Cow Ghee” were targeted. At a site in the CTM area, officials discovered approximately 3,250 kilograms of suspected cow ghee worth Rs 21.31 lakh. Samples were collected for laboratory analysis under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both brands are produced by Sarthak Food Products in Daskroi taluka. The stock at the premises was suspended from sale, and the unit was sealed for further scrutiny. The case details have been forwarded to state government authorities for additional investigation and action.
AMC officials identified two more distributors of the same products in Ahmedabad. Inspections at Veerkrupa Trading in Vatva and Trishala Agency in Dudheshwar led to the suspension of around 1,600 kilograms of suspected ghee stock valued at Rs 10.49 lakh. In total, the sale of approximately 4,850 kilograms of suspected cow ghee from three locations in the city was suspended, with a total estimated value of Rs 31.81 lakh.
