The Ahmedabad police have apprehended an illegal immigrant, Sourav Biswas (30), also known as Michael Biswas, from West Bengal. He is accused of involvement in a network that sent bomb threat emails to various institutions across multiple states, including Gujarat. Biswas entered India in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic and had been living illegally in West Bengal since then.
The arrest was made following an investigation into threatening emails that mentioned bomb blasts at schools, courts, airports, and government buildings. These emails were reported in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, as well as in other states such as Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh.
Ahmedabad’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Sharad Singhal, revealed that the threatening emails had been circulating for almost a year. The police are treating this as part of a broader cyber terror inquiry.
According to investigators, the accused was engaged in the illicit sale of digital services and compromised online accounts through platforms like the dark web. He operated a website called expetseller.shop (F5gitServices) where he sold various digital services, including email accounts, bank accounts, and social media accounts.
