The Ahmedabad police have successfully retrieved stolen jewellery and valuables valued at over Rs 80 lakh. Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the theft of an Angadia consignment from a firm based in the Kalupur area. The main suspects, including the alleged mastermind and an absconding employee, are still at large.
The incident involves H. Pravin Kumar & Co., an Angadia firm situated in the Ratanpol area of Kalupur. On the night of May 6, employee Jigarsinh Vihol departed from the firm’s office carrying consignments containing gold jewellery, silver bars, and diamonds worth Rs 80.56 lakh for delivery to Bhuj. However, Vihol never reached Bhuj with the valuables.
Following the disappearance of Vihol along with the consignment, a complaint was lodged at Kalupur Police Station on May 11 under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The investigation was then transferred to the Zone-3 Local Crime Branch (LCB), which initiated surveillance and intelligence operations under the guidance of senior city police officials.
Police received information that part of the stolen property was to be sold in the Manek Chowk area of the city. Acting on this tip-off, law enforcement intercepted and detained two suspects near Khadia Golwad on May 21. The arrested individuals were identified as Ajayji Thakor, 24, and Dipak Rawal, 34, with the recovered property collectively valued at Rs 80,00,696.
