The Ahmedabad Rural Police in Gujarat confiscated 358 bottles of suspected intoxicating cough syrup valued at Rs 70,884 during an anti-narcotics operation in the Aslali area. The seizure took place near Satva Arcade Complex on the Sarkhej-Dholka Road based on specific intelligence inputs about illicit cough syrup transportation.
Police intercepted a vehicle and found the cough syrup bottles, along with seizing a mobile phone worth Rs 5,000 from the accused. The impounded vehicle, valued at around Rs 3 lakh, was also taken into custody. The total estimated value of the seized items amounts to Rs 3,75,884.
The arrested individual, identified as Khoda alias Rohit Thakor, 36, a driver from Bavla taluka in Ahmedabad district, is currently in custody. Two other suspects, Jignesh Thakor and Ravi Pagi, both residents of Bavla taluka, are wanted in connection with the case.
A case has been filed at Aslali Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the source and distribution network of the confiscated contraband.
In a separate incident earlier this year, the police in Ahmedabad district seized 273 bottles of intoxicating cough syrup in Bavla, leading to the arrest of one individual and the recovery of a vehicle and other related assets. Additionally, law enforcement agencies in Ahmedabad Rural cracked down on the illegal sale of cough syrup in Changodar and Sanand areas, detaining multiple suspects in coordinated raids.
Authorities emphasized that these seizures are part of continuous efforts to combat the illegal circulation of codeine-based cough syrups, which are increasingly misused as intoxicants, especially among young people in certain parts of Gujarat. The investigation into the current case remains ongoing.
