Opposition leader in Tamil Nadu Assembly and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticized the ruling DMK government, stating that their time in power is coming to a close and they will not win the upcoming state elections. Palaniswami invited parties sharing similar ideologies to join the AIADMK-led alliance to oust the DMK from power. He accused the DMK of not fulfilling its commitments and blamed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s administration for accumulating a record amount of debt in Tamil Nadu. Palaniswami demanded that the state government provide Rs 5,000 to each ration cardholder before the Pongal festival, highlighting the failure of the ruling party to address economic challenges. He also criticized the DMK for not extending the 100-day work scheme to 150 days as promised, noting that it was the Central government that increased the workdays to 125. Additionally, he called on the Union government to reconsider the recent hike in railway ticket fares. Palaniswami dismissed comments made by the state BJP chief about alliances as personal opinions. When questioned about the purity of the TVK party, he stated that only the public can judge its integrity. Palaniswami accused the DMK of deceiving voters with unfulfilled promises such as loan waivers and LPG subsidies. He also alleged that the ruling party ignored the demands of protesting nurses seeking permanent employment. Criticizing the DMK’s claims about voter roll revisions, Palaniswami clarified that only duplicate and deceased voters were removed, and the process was standard for all parties. He sarcastically remarked on the DMK’s historical reliance on deceased or fake voters and assured genuine voters that they could reapply if their names were missing. Palaniswami concluded by asserting that the 2026 elections would mark the end of the DMK’s reign and that the people are prepared for a change.
