The AIADMK is set to nominate M. Thambidurai and Anbumani Ramadoss for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu on March 16. The Election Commission of India announced the election notification on February 18, initiating the nomination process until March 5.
The AIADMK-led alliance, with the backing of its partners, is in a favorable position to secure two Rajya Sabha seats based on its current strength in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Anbumani Ramadoss from the PMK is expected to be one of the nominees, while the other seat may be filled by M. Thambidurai, a senior AIADMK leader.
The decision to allocate one Rajya Sabha seat to the PMK was made during a meeting of the AIADMK executive committee. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami confirmed that the PMK would contest one of the two seats in the upcoming election.
The AIADMK’s representation in the Tamil Nadu Assembly has decreased since the 2021 elections, with the party currently holding around 60 seats. Despite this, the alliance, including support from the PMK and BJP MLAs, is expected to secure the necessary votes for both candidates in the Rajya Sabha polls.
The AIADMK leadership is optimistic about securing victories for both its own nominee and its ally’s candidate in the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, with the alliance’s combined support likely ensuring success.
