Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the upcoming Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), effective July 1. With a career spanning over three decades, he is a distinguished test pilot, flying instructor, and fighter combat leader, boasting more than 3300 hours of flying experience across various fighter jets like the MiG-21, HAWK, and Jaguar. Currently serving as the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) at Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff, Dixit has significantly contributed to promoting indigenous projects and modernizing the IAF during his tenure.
Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in 1986, Dixit is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla) and holds qualifications as a flying instructor and test pilot. He has commanded a premier fighter training base in the Southern Sector, earning accolades for its performance under his leadership. Throughout his career, Dixit has held various Command, Staff, and Instructional roles, receiving prestigious honors like the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vayu Sena Medal for his exceptional service.
As a test pilot and former Commanding Officer of the Flight Test Squadron at Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment, Dixit has been actively involved in indigenous upgrades and development programs, including avionics enhancements for aircraft like Jaguar and MiG-27. Noteworthy for his role as Director of Air Staff Requirements, he played a pivotal part in the planning and execution of the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft trials, showcasing his commitment to advancing the capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
