Alexandra Eala from the Philippines achieved a significant milestone at Wimbledon by securing her first-ever entry into the tournament’s third round. Despite an initial lead by Australia’s Maya Joint, Eala fought back with strong fan support, ultimately winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 in under two hours. This victory marks Eala as the first Filipino player to reach this stage at Wimbledon, avenging a close loss to Joint in a previous tournament.
Marie Bouzkova and Emma Navarro also advanced to the third round of the Ladies’ Singles at Wimbledon. Bouzkova, seeded No. 21, overcame an early setback to defeat Grant 7-5, 6-3, securing her third appearance in the third round at Wimbledon. On the other hand, Navarro, who recently lost to Bouzkova in the Nottingham final, triumphed over Oksana Selekhmeteva 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to reach the third round for the third consecutive year.
In the upcoming matches, Bouzkova will face Liudmila Samsonova, last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinalist, while Navarro is set to compete against either No. 12 seed Marta Kostyuk or Anna Blinkova. Both players are looking to continue their successful run at the All England Club.
