Algeria’s head coach, Vladimir Petkovic, commended his team’s resilience following a 3-3 draw with Austria, securing both teams a spot in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Dismissing pre-match collusion rumors, Petkovic highlighted the intense nature of the match and his team’s ability to react effectively.

Petkovic, who will now face Switzerland, a team he previously coached for seven years, expressed his focus on the upcoming match. Despite acknowledging Switzerland’s strength, he emphasized his team’s readiness for the challenge.

Addressing speculation about collusion between the two teams for a draw, Petkovic emphasized Algeria’s commitment to playing for a win. He praised the competitive spirit displayed on the field and stressed the importance of striving for victory in football.

Confirming his team’s proactive approach even after taking the lead, Petkovic reiterated his belief in always playing to win. He emphasized the significance of maintaining a balanced strategy throughout the game, leading to their success in securing a spot in the round of 32.

Looking ahead, Petkovic highlighted the importance of recovery and celebration for his squad before shifting focus to the upcoming match against Switzerland. He expressed his happiness and congratulated the players on their achievement, urging them to savor the moment before preparing for the next round.

Algeria is set to face Switzerland in Vancouver on July 2, while Austria will take on Spain in Los Angeles on the same day.
