President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, expressed support for the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad’s investigation into the funding of over 4,000 madrasas in the state. The Allahabad High Court declined to intervene in the probe, stating it was a fact-finding exercise without coercive measures.
Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi highlighted that since the BJP government came to power in Uttar Pradesh, multiple investigation orders have been issued. He mentioned that the Madrasa Arabia Association welcomed the ATS probe, emphasizing their willingness to cooperate with the authorities. The cleric described madrasas as transparent institutions, open to scrutiny and discussion on all aspects of their operations.
He urged the ATS officials to thoroughly examine the relevant documents and assured full cooperation from the madrasa committee. While suggesting that the state Minority Welfare Departments should handle such investigations, he acknowledged the ATS’s role assigned by the Centre and reiterated their readiness to assist in the process. Congress leader Husain Dalwai raised concerns about the selective scrutiny of religious institutions, questioning why temples were excluded from similar financial examinations.
