Music composer Amaal Mallik revealed that over a decade ago, he fought against the Hindi film music system without any support. This revelation comes amidst the controversy surrounding the alleged non-payment of dues to music composer Tanishk Bagchi. Mallik, known for criticizing unfair practices in the Indian music industry, highlighted issues such as the dominance of labels in creative decisions and the lack of transparency in credit distribution and opportunities for independent musicians.
Amaal Mallik, in a recent social media post, expressed his disappointment with industry insiders waking up late to systemic issues. He emphasized his past battle against the system, questioning the industry’s silence during his struggles in 2015. Meanwhile, Tanishk Bagchi, who composed the title track of the film ‘Saiyaara’, raised concerns about not receiving due royalties for his work. Bagchi shared his sentiments on social media, detailing his efforts and the lack of proper remuneration for his significant contribution to the song.
Tanishk Bagchi’s claims were countered by YRF, the production house behind the film, stating that the title track was a collaborative effort involving three composers, including Bagchi. YRF clarified that royalties for the track have been equally distributed among all three composers and will continue to be shared by the production house.
