Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a two-day trip to Ladakh starting April 30. He expressed his excitement for the first-ever international exposition of Lord Buddha’s holy relics, coinciding with Buddha Purnima on May 1. The sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha have already arrived in Leh for a significant spiritual celebration in Ladakh.
HM Amit Shah highlighted the global significance of the exposition, where devotees from around the world will pay their respects to the relics of Lord Buddha. Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, accompanied by officials and spiritual leaders, welcomed the holy relics at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport with a ceremonial reception. The relics will be safeguarded before being made accessible for public viewing.
L-G Saxena emphasized the auspicious nature of the occasion, noting that the relics, previously exhibited internationally, are now in India for public veneration. The exposition will commence on Buddha Purnima, May 1, and will be open to the public until May 10 at Jivetsal. The event marks the 2569th Buddha Purnima and is a testament to Ladakh’s deep-rooted spiritual ties with Buddhism.
Thousands of devotees joined a grand procession escorting the relics to Jivetsal, showcasing their reverence for the sacred artifacts. L-G Saxena expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for choosing Ladakh as the venue, underscoring the region’s profound spiritual and cultural connection to Buddhism. The relics will be on display in various locations before returning to Delhi on May 15.
