As Tamil Nadu’s political landscape gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) is preparing for a crucial internal discussion scheduled for Wednesday. AMMK’s General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran will lead the meeting with district secretaries to deliberate on the party’s position regarding potential electoral alliances. This move follows the formal partnership between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the impending elections.
AIADMK’s General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has already dismissed any talks of reinstating expelled leaders O. Panneerselvam and V.K. Sasikala within the party. However, when questioned about T.T.V. Dhinakaran, Palaniswami refrained from providing a direct response, leading to speculation within political circles. Senior AIADMK leader Sellur Raju’s recent statement in Madurai, suggesting discussions with Dhinakaran regarding a BJP-led alliance, has further fueled political conjecture.
Reports hint at the active exploration of the possibility of AMMK joining the alliance. Dhinakaran himself has indicated the likelihood of forthcoming alliance announcements, intensifying the ongoing speculations. In a notable political gesture, Dhinakaran extended congratulations to Nitin Nabin on his election as the BJP’s national president, signaling potential closer ties with the BJP leadership. This move coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Chennai on January 23 for a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) campaign rally.
Against this charged political backdrop, Dhinakaran is scheduled to convene an emergency meeting with 80 district secretaries from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The meeting, to be held at the AMMK party headquarters in Adyar, Chennai, aims to outline the party’s future direction as alliance dynamics rapidly evolve in the State.
