Amritsar Commissionerate Police has made progress in the 30 kg heroin seizure case by apprehending two additional suspects, one of whom is a juvenile, and seizing 5.041 kg more heroin, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav. The arrested individuals, identified as Abhishek and a juvenile from Chheharta in Amritsar, have a history of criminal activities, including cases under the Arms Act, the NDPS Act, snatching, and assault-related offenses.
This development follows the recent arrest of six individuals, including Gautam, Kabir, Sameer, Gurpreet, and two juveniles, in possession of 30.045 kg of heroin. DGP Yadav disclosed that investigations have unveiled connections of the accused with a Dubai-based smuggler involved in facilitating heroin consignments from across the border.
The police are currently conducting further inquiries to identify additional associates within the network, track the financial transactions, and uncover potential hawala connections. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that based on investigation findings, an additional 2.006 kg of heroin was recovered from Kabir, one of the arrested accused, leading to the arrest of his two associates as well.
In a separate incident, police were informed about an accident involving one of the module’s operatives, Vanshdeep Singh, as revealed by the arrested suspect Abhishek. The police promptly responded, taking the injured Vanshdeep Singh to the hospital and recovering 3.035 kg of heroin from his scooter. Investigations showed that Vanshdeep Singh had been released on bail from Central Jail in Amritsar on February 2, 2025, and will be formally arrested once declared fit by medical professionals.
Commissioner Bhullar highlighted that the Dubai-based smuggler, wanted in three significant NDPS cases, coordinated with the accused to designate drop locations for heroin consignments. The accused and their associates would then retrieve the shipments from these spots for further distribution to various recipients.
